What Is Contemporary Architecture?

Contemporary architecture is a term applied to architecture that is influenced by modernism and includes all those buildings that have been influenced by it. The term came into use in the late 1920s by German architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Haefel, who defined it as "a style, a kind of decoration, a form of furniture or design which is influenced by the development of modern design and has its origins in an artistic movement." In his view, it was an essential element of post-war modern architecture. Today, a contemporary building can be a simple structure, or it can be a grand monument or a small museum.

Modernism has been applied to architecture in many ways, but one of the most important of all was the way it was used to define contemporary architecture. Contemporary architecture is essentially the architecture of today. No single style dominates; contemporary architects are experimenting in many different styles, from contemporary art to high-tech, highly abstract, and highly functional styles.

Modernist Style This style combines the geometric shapes of the early twentieth century with the more conventional lines of the modern era. It gives an extremely flat impression and emphasizes form rather than formlessness. This style was especially popular in Germany, where it became so popular in the 1930s that it received the nickname "Ludwig's Rock".

New Wave Modern architecture was born out of the 1950s, when architecture underwent a revolution, with more emphasis being put on modern materials and more radical forms. The most popular materials of this period were glass and steel, and the most radical designs were metal, concrete, and wood. These designs showed great potential for innovation, and their impact on contemporary architecture still continues. They are now widely used in office buildings, museums, and even shopping centres.

Retro Classic architecture is influenced by the work of such masters as Frank Lloyd Wright. Its style takes its inspiration from historic architecture, and the influence is quite evident throughout the country, where buildings are often inspired by the buildings of previous decades. Retro designs tend to be minimalist, using simple lines and simple colors.

So, what is contemporary architecture? It is a very broad category that incorporates all the styles that were popular during the last hundred years, as well as many others that have not been explored fully. It is a way of expressing creativity on a grand scale, and the result is the modernistic architecture that we enjoy.Chick here for more details about contemporary architecture
